geography

Friedersdorf is not far from Litschen , about four kilometers south of the Lohsa community center. The Kleine Spree is not far from the village.

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1471 as Friederßdorff . The exact age can no longer be determined today, as sources from earlier times are very poor.

A manor is documented for 1614 and the Landvogtei Bautzen for 1777.

As a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, part of Saxony had to be surrendered to Prussia, including part of Upper Lusatia. By forming the district of Hoyerswerda, Friedersdorf came from the province of Brandenburg to the province of Silesia in 1825. Friedersdorf only belongs to Saxony again after the Second World War.

On January 1st, 1957 Friedersdorf was incorporated into Litschen.

Place name

The following place names have been passed down over the centuries: Friederßdorff (1471), Ffridersdorff (1497), Fridersdorff (1529), Friderßdorf (1572), Friedersdorff (1658) and finally Friedersdorf bey Lohßa (1768). Unfortunately, today it is no longer possible to determine the exact point in time when the place got its current name.

Population and language

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 134 in the 1880s, including all Sorbs. In 1956, Ernst Tschernik still counted 78.8% of the population in the Friedersdorf community who spoke Sorbian. Since then, the use of Sorbian in the village has declined sharply.
