Friedhelm Deis

Friedhelm Deis (born June 1, 1930 in Bochum ; †  August 25, 2008 in Hattingen ) was the director of the music school of the city of Hattingen as well as a musician and composer . He was also a teacher at several high schools in North Rhine-Westphalia , as well as a conductor , poet and composer in the New Apostolic Church .

Life

At the age of ten Deis received his first piano lessons, at the age of twelve he wrote his first compositions with small piano pieces . His interest in music prompted him to study harmony and counterpoint as well as organ playing on an autodidactic basis . From 1945 on he played the harmonium in the New Apostolic divine services, in 1948 he wrote the first songs for the New Apostolic Church. They were created in close collaboration with Bishop Ludwig Hennrich and were published and published by Friedrich-Bischoff-Verlag . On November 7, 1948, Friedhelm Deis performed his cantata Der Herr ist mein Hirte with the New Apostolic Youth Choir from Bochum and a small orchestra as part of a youth service in Herne . In November 1949, Friedhelm Deis was appointed to the Dortmund Music Committee by District Apostle Walter Schmidt at the time . In the same year he won the Prize of the Minister of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia for a piano sonata , five preludes and fugues . The occasion was a student competition during the Goethe year.

From 1951 to 1954 he studied school music at the Musikhochschule Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie in Detmold with the subjects organ ( Michael Schneider ), solo singing ( Fred Drissen ), flute ( Kurt Redel , Hans-Peter Schmitz ), conducting ( Alexander Wagner and others), composition ( Richard Rudolf Klein ) and music history ( Erich Valentin ), at the same time he also studied geography . After his exams, he was a secondary school teacher in Bochum and Welper near Hattingen from 1954 to 1975 . From 1970 to 1971 he studied school music again at the Cologne University of Music and passed the examination for teaching at the grammar school . From 1975 until his retirement in 1992 he worked at a grammar school in Hattingen, the last ten years of which as director of studies. From 1970 onwards he built up the music school of the city of Hattingen, which he directed until 2001. He gave many concerts in this area. In the New Apostolic Church itself, he enjoyed a high reputation due to his professional competence. He also worked for a long time in the development of orchestras and in the training of choir directors. Promoting young talent has always been a matter of particular concern to him. His three-volume organ school made him known to musicians outside of the church.

On August 13, 2006, he celebrated their golden wedding with his wife Hanna .

Honors

In addition to being honored in 1949 by the NRW Minister of Culture, he also received the Hattingen Choir Medal in 1997 , the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1999 and the 2001 CDU Culture Prize from the CDU parliamentary group and the Hattingen City Association . In particular, when he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, his voluntary commitment to the New Apostolic Church was recognized.

  • As a composer: approx. 320 large and small works, including 8 cantatas , 3 symphonies , 2 organ fantasies, 2 operas (including Ex Historia Hatneggensi , opera for the 600th anniversary of the city of Hattingen ) and an oratorio , many of which were also performed by Friedrich -Bischoff-Verlag as records and CD sound carriers were published.
  • as the author of textbooks: a three-volume organ school with 37,859 copies sold (as of April 2001)
  • As an instrument maker: house organ with mechanical slide box with 20 registers and 1,210 pipes on 2 manuals and pedal, two-manual harpsichord , clavichord , fiddles , psaltery , Gothic harp, etc.
