In 1801 he attended the local university a two-year study of the philosophy on which he on 22 September 1803 as Doctor graduated. Although the university was converted into a lyceum in 1803 , Brenner could not afford to move to another university, so he stayed here and studied theology. The following year he entered the Catholic seminary . After he was ordained a priest on April 12, 1807 , he was hired on December 17, 1807 as a chaplain at the St. Gangolf Church in Bamberg . As such he moved to St. Martin's Church on March 28, 1808. At the beginning of the year, however, he had also started further studies at the University of Landshut ; on August 4, 1808, he received the degree of theological doctor. When the magazine Theologische Zeitschrift was founded the following year , Brenner published articles from the start; he had been given responsibility for the last six volumes prior to the cessation of publication. Finally he returned to Bamberg and was there on October 13, 1818 at the Subregens seminary .

Two years later he had been promoted to Regens there after also becoming secretary at the consistory for marriage matters. He continued the Bamberg Chronicle from 1818 until his death; He refused appointments to the universities of Bonn and Freiburg and instead became a provisional professor of church history and canon law at the Lyceum on December 10, 1820, and shortly afterwards also of dogmatics . In 1821 he had stopped his services in the consistory and in October of the same year was appointed to the cathedral chapter and also to the royal ecclesiastical council . Not much later he gave up his activity as rain. Finally, on November 5, 1844, Brenner became cathedral dean and the following year he gave up the professorship at the Lyceum for health reasons.

A work by Friedrich Brenner published in 1832 was thought to be indifferent , so that it was indexed three years later . He was badly hit by this. In 1847 he received the Knight's Cross of the Royal Order of Merit , which was associated with the personal nobility , and henceforth called himself Friedrich von Brenner. Just one year later, on August 20, he died in Bamberg at the age of 64.
