Friedrich Christian Wirth (born December 21, 1826 in Neesbach ( Limburg district ), † April 26, 1895 in Wiesbaden ) was Nassau regional director and member of the Prussian state parliament as well as co-founder of the Nassau Sparkasse .

Life

Wirth lived in Usingen since 1842 . After high school in 1851 at the High School in Hadamar he studied from 1851 to 1853 law at the Universities of Giessen and Heidelberg . In autumn 1853 he passed the “Nassau theoretical bankruptcy test” (first state examination) as the best of his year. In 1858 he successfully passed the second state examination.

Work for the Nassauische Landesbank

From 1856 Wirth worked for the Landesbank in Wiesbaden , from which the Nassauische Sparkasse would later emerge. After various stations and an interruption (from 1866 to 1868, Wirth worked as a judge in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ), he became deputy director in 1870 and worked on the division of the Landesbank into the Nassauische Landesbank and the Nassauische Sparkasse .

Activity as country director

After Nassau was taken over by Prussia, elected municipal parliaments were elected within the scope of the provincial self-government in the province of Nassau at the level of the administrative districts. This elected a "permanent committee" and a full-time Nassau country director to manage its business .

Christian Wirth was elected by the Wiesbaden municipal parliament on October 31, 1872 as the first Nassau state director for the Wiesbaden administrative district for a period of 12 years. He fulfilled this task until he retired on April 1, 1881 at his own request.

Political activity

From 1882 to 1891 Wirth was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives as a member of the Liberal Association . Essential goals for him were the appointment of Usingens to the district town (see district Usingen ) and the construction of the railway line Bad Homburg – Usingen (today's Taunusbahn ).

  • In 1903 the city of Usingen erected a memorial to him in the palace garden.
  • Since July 1925 the state advanced school (today: Gymnasium) in Usingen has been named: Christian-Wirth-Schule .
  • In front of the Christian Wirth School in Usingen there is a memorial for Christian Wirth.
  • Christian-Wirth-Straße was named after him in Fulda .
