Friedrich Heeren was a son of the businessman Christoph Friedrich Heeren (born January 2, 1770 in Arbergen, † July 7, 1843 in Hamburg) and grandson of the Protestant clergyman Heinrich Erhard Heeren (1728-1811).

After attending the Johanneum and the Academic Gymnasium in Hamburg, Heeren began studying chemistry at the University of Göttingen , which he completed in 1825 with a doctorate. In 1827 he founded a candle factory in Hamburg with his brother. In 1831 he became a teacher at the Polytechnic School in Hanover. In 1846 he became an honorary citizen of Hanover, together with Karl Karmarsch, Heinrich Kirchweger and Moritz Rühlmann . From the same year there is a letter from the management of the trade association for the Kingdom of Hanover , which announces a six-week posting of the Heeren employee to England “to achieve commercial purposes”.

In 1855 Heeren was appointed professor and in 1876 a secret councilor. In 1884 he retired. He died on May 2, 1885 at the age of 81. He was a member of the Corps Saxonia Hannover .
