Friedrich Ezekiel

Friedrich Christoph Hesekiel (born October 27, 1794 in Rehsen , † April 14, 1840 in Altenburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Ezekiel was born as the son of the pastor in Rehsen Johann Christoph Hesekiel and his wife Charlotte Sophie Ellinger. After attending school in Dessau , he studied theology at the University of Wittenberg , the University of Leipzig and the University of Halle . During his studies in 1816 he became a member of the Teutonia Halle fraternity . In 1818 he became pastor at the Moritzkirche in Halle and later hospital preacher . After the theological faculty of the Halle University had awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1830, he went to Altenburg in 1834 as general superintendent and consistorial assessor. He stood up for the church union between Lutherans and Reformed and wrote religious poems and edification writings. In 1834 he was made honorary citizenship of Halle. He was a member of the Halle Masonic lodge to the three swords .

Ezekiel was married twice. He was the father of the publicist George Ezekiel and the general superintendent Johannes Ezekiel .
