Friedrich Klingmann

Friedrich "Fritz" Klingmann (born March 10, 1874 in Gaiberg near Heidelberg , † 1947 ) was a German oenologist and grape breeder . He spent most of his professional life as an agricultural councilor for viticulture and fruit growing in the Frankenthal area in the north-eastern Palatinate.

Life

After practical and theoretical training in Reutlingen and Karlsruhe , Klingmann was initially an assistant at the Augustenberg Agricultural School in Karlsruhe (now the Augustenberg Agricultural Technology Center ) from 1893 to 1899 . From 1900 he worked as a viticulture hiking teacher , later as a specialist teacher at the agricultural school for viticulture and fruit growing in Frankenthal.

Professional merit

Klingmann created test facilities for vines training and for plant protection . In addition selektionierte he clones of Riesling and the Blue Portugieser . He gained importance primarily through his practical attempts to control hayworms and sourworms . In 1924 founded Kling man in Dirmstein the vines refining Institute , which later in viticulture research institute was renamed. From here he successfully promoted viticulture on the former Unterhaardt, which in 1969 merged into the Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstrasse cultivation area .

Honors

The municipality of Dirmstein has dedicated the Rat-Klingmann-Weg to Klingmann for his services to improve the quality of viticulture .
