Friedrich Ludwig Geß , from 1876 von Geß , (born December 21, 1828 in Ellwangen , † April 24, 1905 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life

After attending the Latin school in Nürtingen , Friedrich Ludwig Gess attended the Protestant theological seminar in Maulbronn . In Tübingen he studied from 1847 to 1852 law and was since 1847 member of the Corps Rhenania Tübingen . In 1851 he passed the first and in 1852 the second higher judicial service examination, then he was employed as a judicial assessor at the higher regional courts in Welzheim , Urach and Rottweil . In 1855 he was appointed to the court actuary at the court in Esslingen and in 1857 to the civil senate of the district court in Ulm , in 1867 he was appointed chief judicial officer there . In 1872 he took over the deputy chairmanship as a district judge at the criminal chamber of the district court in Tübingen, in addition he was president of the jury court in Tübingen. Further stations in his professional career were the jury courts in Esslingen, Ravensburg and Rottweil. At times he worked as a ministerial advisor in the Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart. In October 1879 he was then Reich judge at the Reich Court in Leipzig . In 1891 he retired.

politics

In 1877 he was elected to the state parliament for the first time , but after his appointment to the Reich judge, he had to give up the mandate again in 1879. After his retirement, Friedrich Ludwig Geß applied again for a seat in the state parliament, and in 1895 he was also elected in the Esslingen constituency. He held the mandate until his death in 1905.

In 1878 Geß was elected to the Reichstag in the constituency of Württemberg 6 ( Reutlingen , Tübingen , Rottenburg ) . Due to his appeal to the Reichsgericht, the mandate expired on March 16, 1880. His further Reichstag candidacies in 1898 and a replacement election in 1899 in the constituency of Württemberg 5 (Esslingen) did not lead to success. In both elections he was narrowly defeated in the runoff election.

Geß was also chairman of the German party in Württemberg and a member of the city council of Esslingen.

family

Friedrich Ludwig Geß was the son of the chief magistrate Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Geß in Ellwangen († 1839). His first marriage was Maria Frank, then his second marriage in 1859 to Sophie Stumpf, with whom he had three children.

Awards

Friedrich Ludwig Geß received the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in 1876 , which was associated with the personal title of nobility ( ennoblement ). Also in 1876 he was awarded the commentary cross, 2nd class, of the Order of Frederick .
