Friedrich Muhlberg
Friedrich Christoph Mühlberg (born April 19, 1840 in Aarau ; † May 25, 1915 there ) was a Swiss , teacher , geologist and author .
Live and act
Mühlberg's parents immigrated to Switzerland from Germany and acquired Swiss citizenship . In Aarau they ran a textile printing and dyeing factory.
After Mühlberg successfully finished high school in Aarau, he studied botany, geology and chemistry at the Polytechnic in Zurich from 1859 . He completed this just two years later with a diploma in chemistry. Then he was a teacher at the Canton School of Zug . In 1866 Augustin Keller appointed him to the Aarau Cantonal School . There he taught biology, mineralogy, geology, and at times mathematics and chemistry. Many of his students later became teachers in middle and high schools. Albert Einstein was a student of Mühlberg.
On behalf of the Swiss Geological Commission, he researched the geology of the Aargau and other parts of the Jura region . So he mapped the eastern Jura and recognized that “the chain Jura was pushed up onto the table Jura”.
In addition, he dealt with hydrogeology and wrote a source booklet for each of the 233 communities in Aargau with detailed information on contained and unmounted springs, wells and water holes. Mühlberg also campaigned for nature conservation . In 1880 his comprehensive work Flora des Aargau appeared with a list of locations and common names of vascular plants .
Mühlberg was for many years President of the Aargau Natural Research Society and curator of the natural history collections. In 1888, Mühlberg received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel for his services .
Mühlberg was married to Emilie Sophie (1858–1922), a daughter of Otto Sutermeister . His son was the geologist Max Mühlberg , his daughter Lily Mühlberg became a doctor. His estate is in the Naturama in Aarau.
