After studying architecture , Stamm first went to Minden as a building manager (building supervisor) in the Prussian civil service . In 1822 he became a building inspector in Bremen. There he was mainly responsible for agriculture and structural engineering, while Nicolaus Blohm was in charge of hydraulic engineering and dyke construction. The maintenance, expansion and construction of the public buildings in Bremen fell within Stamm's area of responsibility.

Various neo-classical buildings were created based on his designs, which helped shape the Bremen cityscape in the first half of the 19th century. For example the guard and detention building at the Ostertor (built in 1825), the guard building at the Hohentor (1826), the gatehouse at the Bischoffsnadel (1830) and the workhouse (1831) on the glory - a peninsula between the large and small Weser. In addition, he was in charge of the new construction of the Little Weser Bridge - the “Bridal Bridge” -, was responsible for the road construction and worked with Jacobus Johannes van Ronzelen on the urban planning of Bremerhaven, which was founded in 1827 . In 1839 Stamm was appointed city planning director and technical director for the exams of master masons and carpenters.

The small gatehouse on Bischoffsnadel and the two Ostertorwache buildings on Ostertorsteinweg , which now house the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus and the Wilhelm-Wagenfeld-Haus , have been preserved from his buildings .
