Friedrich Philipp Usener (born November 26, 1773 in Steinfurth ; † November 11, 1867 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Friedrich Philipp Usener was a son of the bailiff from Bornheimerberg , Johann Heinrich Usener (1745-1815). He grew up in Bergen and then studied law in Marburg and Göttingen . In 1796 he was in Erlangen Dr. jur. PhD. From 1797 he worked as a lawyer in Frankfurt, where he acquired citizenship in the same year .

Until 1806 he was a member of the Frankfurt legation to the permanent Regensburg Reichstag . Under Dalberg he was a fiscal lawyer until 1813. In the wars of liberation he was a colonel in 1814/15 and was involved in the organization of the Frankfurt Landsturm.

In 1821 he was the first candidate for the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt . However, he had bad luck with the ball and Bernhard Miltenberg became a senator. In 1822 it was Johannes Kappes , in 1823 Friedrich Carl Hector Wilhelm von Günderrode and in 1824 Johann Konrad Behrends who were luckier than Usener. Since his qualifications were generally recognized, the Senate decided on October 21, 1824, contrary to the legal regulations, to appoint Usener as a chancellery without ballot. The Permanent Citizens' Representation approved this procedure on November 4, 1824. But Usener's losing streak should continue. In 1826 he was defeated by Conrad Adolf Bansa , and in 1827 by Carl Heinrich Georg von Heyden

In 1829 he finally became a senator, in 1839 a Schöff and belonged to the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt until 1861. He was also a member of the legislative body from 1830 to 1848 .

In 1831, 1832 and 1836 he was city judge, in 1837 city court vice director and from 1838 to 1856 appellant judge.

He also worked as a local researcher and there, above all, with the castle complexes in the area. He was also a draftsman of watercolors.
