Friedrich Pruckmann

Friedrich Pruckmann (born February 4, 1562 in Frankfurt an der Oder ; † June 25, 1630 ) was Chancellor of the Elector of Brandenburg from 1616 to 1630 .

Pruckmann was the son of Christoph Pruckmann , patrician and mayor in Frankfurt an der Oder and privy councilor of Elector Joachim Hector . He studied law in his hometown and in Wittenberg , where he received his doctorate around 1584. At that time he married Eva Otto (1560–1624), with whom he had two daughters. He worked first in Frankfurt and then in Berlin , where he joined Kurbrandenburg in 1592. He became court and chamber judge , in 1594 councilor at the official chamber for the administration of domains and forests and soon afterwards assessor at the quarterly court of the Uckermark in Prenzlau . In 1597 and 1603 he was a member of the Brandenburg embassy at the Reichstag in Regensburg .

In 1604 he was appointed to the standing Privy Council of Elector Joachim Friedrich , in 1606 he became Vice Chancellor and in 1616 Chancellor, i.e. the second highest official in Brandenburg after the Elector's governor. He held this position until his death. Pruckmann represented the elector in numerous diplomatic missions, for example in 1612 and 1619 in the elections in Frankfurt am Main and in 1616 and 1618 in negotiations with Poland on trade matters.

In 1584 he was with Eva Otto (1560–1624) daughter of the lawyer Lorenz Otto. The couple had children including:

  • Eva Maria (1590–1645), ⚭ 1613 Sebastian Striepe (1582–1649), Brandenburg statesman
  • Sibylle (1592–1640), ⚭ 1623 Hoyer Striepe (1586–1639), Brandenburg secret chamber secretary and pfennig master
