Friedrich Schlögl

Friedrich Kilian Schlögl (* December 7, 1821 ob der Laimgrube , today Vienna , † October 7, 1892 in Vienna) was an Austrian writer and columnist.

Life

Schlögl was born in the then Viennese suburb of Laimgrube in the house Zum Auerhahn (today's location Gumpendorfer Strasse 40), which no longer exists, as the son of a hatter journeyman. He was a military accountant from 1840 to 1849 and then an official in the court war bookkeeping until 1870.

meaning

Alongside Eduard Pötzl and Vinzenz Chiavacci, Schlögl is one of the leading Viennese moralists and humorists. He published his humoresques, poems and cultural-historical articles about Vienna in numerous calendars, magazines and compilations, including in the Deutsche Zeitung and the Heimgarten by Peter Rosegger . From 1857 to the end of the 1870s he worked for Figaro , from 1867 he wrote for the Neue Wiener Tagblatt and the Morgenpost. In 1876, Schlögl and Karl Sitter founded Wiener Luft, a supplement to Figaro .

Honors

In 1891 Schlögl was granted citizenship in Vienna. After his death in 1892, a memorial plaque was placed on his former house at Fillgradergasse 4, which, like his tomb in the Purkersdorf cemetery, was made by Emanuel Pendl . In 1894 Schlöglgasse in Vienna- Meidling was named after him. In 1954, Maximilian Florian made a sgraffito at number 17 there , entitled Viennese Walks by Schlögl .
