Friedrich Siebert (General)

Friedrich Siebert (born July 7, 1888 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , † May 13, 1950 in Würzburg ) was a German infantry general in World War II .

Life

In 1907 Siebert joined the 20th Infantry Regiment "Prinz Franz" of the Bavarian Army as a flag junior . On May 26, 1909, he was promoted to lieutenant . During the First World War , Siebert was promoted to captain until March 1918 and received both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements . After the end of the war he switched to the Reichswehr and worked as a commander in various associations. On October 1, 1933 he became a lieutenant colonel and on September 1, 1935 a colonel . From October 1, 1937, he was in command of the 55th Infantry Regiment. On April 1, 1939, he was promoted to major general . During the Second World War he was in command of the 44th Infantry Division from October 1, 1939 to May 2, 1942 . On April 1, 1941, he became lieutenant general and in this capacity was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on November 18, 1941 . From October 10, 1942, he led the 57th Infantry Division . From February 20 to September 7, 1943 Siebert took over the XIII as commanding general . Army Corps . He was promoted to General of the Infantry on May 1, 1943. His brother Ludwig Siebert was a lawyer and from 1933 Bavarian Prime Minister.
