Friedrich Walla

Friedrich "Fred" Walla (* 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian literary scholar and university professor in Newcastle (New South Wales) , Australia and a Nestroy researcher.

Life

Fred Walla studied German and English at the University of Vienna , but also philosophy , pedagogy , psychology as well as history , Romance studies (French) and linguistics . At first he worked as an English teacher at business schools and the business academies of the Viennese merchant class . This was followed by teaching in France ( University of Lyon ) and in England (at Westfield College , London ).

In 1971 he became a Lecturer at the University of Newcastle , NSW, Australia, and in 1978 Senior Lecturer. Since 1986 he has been an associate professor and three times head of the Institute for Modern Languages. Fred Walla has been retired since 2004.

As editor, Walla presented 18 Nestroy works in 9 individual volumes, one in two different versions. His dissertation on Nestroy was published in 1979, following the first source catalogs on Nestroy and the first volume of Nestroy's pieces. Other works by Walla concerned Ferdinand Raimund , WA Mozart's Magic Flute , the Austrian violinist Miska Hauser in Australia and - together with his wife, the Germanist Heather Stuart, the older German studies, such as the Merseburger Zaubersprüche .
