Life

After attending the Bundesrealgymnasium in Tulln , Wallner first studied philosophy , classical philology , psychology and German at the University of Vienna . As a high school student he was very interested in Oswald Spengler and his work “ The Decline of the Occident ”, but as a student Wallner again distanced himself from it because of the implicit biological structure of this work. He completed his studies in 1969 with a teaching post for introductory philosophical classes, with Latin and German as a minor. From this point on, Wallner teaches at the Bundes-Oberstufenrealgymnasium [BORG] in Wiener Neustadt . In 1972 followed a doctorate in philosophy with the subject "Democritical and Epicurean Ethics". Because of the publication of the book "Philosophical Problems of Physics" Wallner got a teaching position with the same title at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Vienna in 1978. During this time Wallner worked with the physicist Roman U. Sexl .

In 1981, Wallner was awarded the post-doctoral thesis The Limits of Language and Knowledge for the entire field of philosophy . Analyzes on and in connection with Wittgenstein's philosophy . Until 1987 he held interdisciplinary seminars, to which representatives from other disciplines occasionally contributed.

From 1976 to 1987 Wallner worked at the Wittgenstein symposia in Kirchberg am Wechsel . When Wallner was appointed professor of philosophy with special emphasis on the theory of science ( epistemology ) in 1987 , he ended his work as a high school teacher. In the 1980s, Wallner and Herbert Pietschmann organized one-week seminars for physics and philosophy teachers in Mariazell (Styria). At the same time, Wallner met Humberto Maturana , with whom he developed a very fruitful collaboration. Since 1980 Wallner has been a permanent employee of the “Philosophical Literature Gazette” and the “Journal for Didactics of Philosophy”. In 1982 I met Karl Popper for the first time . For Wallner, the discussion with the German philosopher Hans Blumenberg (“The Legitimacy of Modern Times”) was very stimulating .

In 1990 Wallner published the eight lectures on constructive realism . This book was the starting point for numerous lecture tours and visiting professorships. In 1990 Wallner became editor of the “Cognitive Science” series (Wiener Universitätsverlag). In 1991 the association “Institute for Constructive Realism” was founded and supported by the City of Vienna for many years. In 1994 Wallner was the initiator and co-organizer of an international congress in Beijing on the Vienna Circle with a symposium on Constructive Realism. This was followed by an extensive lecture tour to Chinese universities. During this time there is also a one-week seminar in Bodhgaya , India, under the direction of the Dalai Lama .

From 1994 to 2010 Wallner held seminars on the theory, structure and methodology of Chinese medicine at the University of Vienna. Wallner retired in 2010. Since then, further work has followed in the field of basic research into medical systems, in addition to Chinese medicine, now also on traditional Thai medicine .

A project that has existed since 2008 and is planned until 2015 deals with 'Theory, Structure and Methodology of Chinese Medicine' in cooperation with the Academy for Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing with the participation of several Austrian doctors and natural scientists.

Works

Wallner published from about 1972 to 1983 under "Friedrich Wallner". Since “Wallner” is a common name, he then published under “Fritz G. Wallner” until approx. 1999 to make it easier to distinguish. Then alternately under “Fritz G.”, “Fritz” and “Friedrich” (apparently also dependent on the respective publisher ), since 2008 mainly under "Friedrich G. Wallner". The middle name, abbreviated with "G.", is derived from a Chinese name of honor that Wallner was given on the occasion of a stay in China.
