Friedrich Wilhelm Gaik
Friedrich Wilhelm Gaik (born December 9, 1896 in Berlin ; † June 4, 1982 ibid) was a German film producer , production and production group leader.
Life
Gaik had studied theology and economics and initially worked as a bank clerk at a bank (most recently as an authorized signatory ). At the end of the 1920s, he gained his first experience as a production manager abroad ( England and Norway ). In 1929 he returned to Berlin, worked for a short time as a production manager for “Memento-Film” and a little later founded his own production company, “ Algefa ”, which released feature length films from 1935 onwards.
At the same time, he and his Russian-born colleague Serge Otzoup worked together in a company to ensure that those Austrian films that were to be approved for export to the German Reich complied with the German quota regulations as part of a German-Austrian agreement. This was especially true for the required Aryan proof of all those involved in these productions. After the remaining private film companies merged to form Berlin-Film , Gaik was appointed production group leader in 1942.
After the end of the war he initially worked as an importer and exporter of films. In 1952, Gaik re-founded "Algefa" and until 1955 again produced his own productions. Gaik productions were consistently the lightest-weight entertaining food: operetta-like musical romances and noble schnulzers, and finally a little more serious material. The producer showed no artistic ambitions.
