from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Wilhelm Nevoigt (born April 6, 1859 in Kackrow / Niederlausitz, according to another source: Krakow am See in Mecklenburg; † July 21, 1937 in Radebeul ) was a German manufacturer of knitting machines and bicycles. Together with his older brother Wilhelm Friedrich Nevoigt, he founded the later Diamant Fahrradwerke in 1885 . Wilhelm Friedrich Nevoigt studied mechanical engineering at the Technikum Mittweida from 1878 to 1880 and founded his own company for the manufacture of knitting machine accessories in Reichenbrand near Chemnitz in 1884 . Already in 1909 the older brother Wilhelm Friedrich Nevoigt, who was also born in Kackrow / Niederlausitz, died (* January 23, 1857 , † May 1, 1909 in Reichenbrand ).

Live and act

On January 1, 1885, the Nevoigt brothers had this registered as the Nevoigt Reichenbrand / Chemnitz brothers in the commercial register of the city of Chemnitz. In the same year they also began to manufacture nibs and to test individual bicycles .

In 1898 the Nevoigt brothers invented the double roller chain , which is one of today's world standards.

Increasing sales figures for bicycles led to the decision to set up series production for them. Due to lack of space, the Nevoigt brothers moved into the newly built building on today's Nevoigtstrasse and from 1895 manufactured bicycles there from series production, which they named " Diamant ". All parts except saddle and tires were from our own production. In 1898 300 employees worked there.

With the addition of flat knitting machines , the company continued to grow; in 1907 the Nevoigt brothers converted it to the joint stock company Gebrüder Nevoigt AG Reichenbrand / Chemnitz .

In 1912 bicycle production was the most important part of the company's operations, so that Nevoigt and the company's supervisory board renamed it Diamant Werke Gebrüder Nevoigt AG . By 1916 the number of employees had grown to 1,000. Today it is the oldest German bicycle factory.

In 1916, Friedrich Nevoigt retired and moved to Niederlößnitz (now part of Radebeul ), where he lived first in what is now Oberen Bergstrasse, and then until his death on Königstrasse (now Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse).
