Friedrich Wilhelm Richter (clergyman, 1727)
Friedrich Wilhelm Richter (born February 14, 1727 in Halle (Saale) ; † July 27, 1791 in Braunschweig ) was a German Protestant clergyman and educator.
Life
In 1748 Friedrich Wilhelm Richter became a first-class teacher in the Halle orphanage run by the Francke Foundations and in 1751 came to Calbe (Saale) as rector (today: Heinrich-Heine-Schule ) .
On January 15, 1760, Duke Karl I of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel had the Latin school of the Amelungsborn Abbey relocated to Holzminden and merged it with the city school to form a grammar school (today: Campe-Gymnasium Holzminden ), at whose head he appointed Friedrich Wilhelm Richter, which was introduced on this day by the abbot Theodor Wilhelm Ritmeier (1705–1774); in July 1760 he was appointed prior of the Amelungsborn monastery. Although he took over the school in the chaos of the Seven Years' War and the school was opened with only ten students, he was able to expand the institute against all obstacles, so that the number of students increased significantly after a short time. At first he held the lessons in all classes almost alone, because his vice-principal died in August 1760 and only the sub-principal was available until he had trained a few assistants among his students; In making this selection, he did not pay attention to rich children, but to particularly capable children, so that he had to use his own fortune at first. His students included August Christian Bartels , Joachim Heinrich Campe and Karl Friedrich Häberlin .
In 1777 he was appointed superintendent in Lichtenberg , but because the Duke of Braunschweig wanted to continue to use his pedagogical skills, he appointed him in Braunschweig in 1784 as city and general superintendent of the Principality of Wolfenbüttel .
