Friedrich Wilhelm von Dewitz

Friedrich Wilhelm von Dewitz (born May 10, 1668 in Wussow ; † October 25, 1736 in Schönebeck ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the cuirassier regiment of the same name, as well as governor of Balga .

Life

origin

His parents were the Pomeranian District Administrator Jobst Ludwig von Dewitz (1631–1696) and his wife Anna Gertrud, born von Steinwehr († August 17, 1669). The later Lieutenant General Stephan von Dewitz (1658–1723) was his brother.

Military career

As early as 1682 Dewitz joined the Prussian army as a simple musketeer , in 1683 he became a sergeant and in 1686 took part in the siege of Ofen as a volunteer with the imperial troops in Hungary . In 1688 he became a cornet in the cavalry, in 1689 a lieutenant and in 1693 a captain . During the War of the Palatinate Succession he fought in the Battle of Neer winds . He was seriously injured there and initially lay among the dead, but was lucky and was found and saved by a citizen. After his recovery he became a major in 1705 and a lieutenant colonel after the battle of Oudenaarde in May 1709 . On June 16, 1714 he became a colonel in the body regiment. On June 22, 1723 he was major general and in 1736 lieutenant general. He died shortly afterwards on October 25, 1736 after 54 years of service.

family

He was married to Anna Eleonore von Krafft from the Delitz family. The couple had two daughters and five sons:
