Friedrich Wilhelm von Wedel

Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Wedel (born March 28, 1798 on the Evenburg ; † July 14, 1872 in Ems ) was an Oldenburg lieutenant general and head of the Department of Military Affairs.

Life

origin

His parents were Clemens August von Wedel (born September 9, 1754; † December 26, 1825) and his wife Wilhelmine Sophie Elisabeth, born von Gaudy (born January 12, 1765; † May 9, 1840).

Military career

Wedel was intended for the military by his parents. He therefore joined the Prussian Army in 1816 . Wedel soon switched to the Hanover Army.

On June 30, 1833 he became a captain in the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment . In 1850 he became a major , in 1857 a lieutenant colonel and in 1860 a colonel . On November 27, 1861, Wedel took over the management of the Oldenburg Military Department of the Peter von Rössing government as "de facto" minister . At the same time he was appointed major general and chief of staff of the Grand Duke. On April 12, 1865, he was promoted to lieutenant general.

With the military convention of July 15, 1867 between Prussia and Oldenburg, the military department was dissolved and Wedel was retired on September 30, 1867.

family

Wedel married on March 28, 1827 the Freiin Wilhelmine Bertha Sophie von Glaubitz (* June 21, 1802, † December 27, 1887), a daughter of the Prussian Major General Johann Karl Sigismund von Glaubitz (1764-1838) and Johanna Sophie Elisabeth Puschen ( * February 8, 1768 - December 11, 1821). The couple had seven children:

  • Clemens Eugen Ludwig Karl (born January 7, 1828), Hanoverian officer
  • Clemens August Karl (born February 15, 1829 - † February 7, 1907), Oldenburg master stableman and head bartender ⚭ Margarethe Pauline Constanze von Falkenstein (* November 17, 1842 - † January 7, 1926)
  • Clementine Wilhelmine Clotilde Frederike Rosalie (* June 15, 1832) ⚭ 1855 Ferdinand Julius von Wedel-Jarlsberg (* October 23, 1823 - † August 11, 1907)
  • Klara Johanna Wilhelmine (April 29, 1835 - June 16, 1907) ⚭ 1855 Gustav Adolf Graf von Bentinck (* November 21, 1809 - May 5, 1876), Hanoverian major
  • Wilhelm Johann Ludwig (* November 15, 1837; † April 25, 1912) ⚭ Luise Freiin von Bodelschwingh-Plettenberg (* August 2, 1839; † October 10, 1882)
  • Hermann Berthold Theodor (born June 29, 1839)
