Friedrich Wilhelm von Winterfeldt

Friedrich Wilhelm von Winterfeldt (* 23. August 1830 in Dinslaken ; † 16th June 1893 in Dusseldorf ) was a German landscape painter of the Düsseldorf School of the noble family Winterfeld (t) .

Life

Von Winterfeldt was the son of Rittmeister Friedrich von Winterfeld (* June 6, 1801; † June 16, 1841) and Albertine Caroline Wilhelmine Marie Agnes (born von Britzke , * June 18, 1809; † March 31, 1890) from the Briesen family . After the death of her husband, she married the Rittmeister Ernst von Schaumburg .

From 1850 to 1853 von Winterfeldt embarked on a military career in the 8th Uhlan Regiment , where he became a surplus second lieutenant on March 13, 1852 . On June 17, 1853 he was transferred to the 8th Cuirassier Regiment , but released on August 18, 1853 due to his poor health.

He then turned to landscape painting. In 1853 he became a student in the private studio of the Norwegian landscape and marine painter Hans Fredrik Gude in Düsseldorf. He went on study trips to the Bavarian Alps and the Teutoburg Forest.

On September 2, 1862, he married the Oldenburg-born Johanna Freiin von und zu Egloffstein (* December 17, 1843), eldest daughter of the Oldenburg Lieutenant General Julius von Egloffstein († December 23, 1861) and Sophie Johanne von Pretlack († 4. March 1847). In 1863 the couple's only son, Hans-Karl Rudolf von Winterfeldt , was born in Düsseldorf .
