Life

Friedrich Graf von Ahlefeldt was the son of the noble landlord Carl Graf von Ahlefeldt (1670–1722) and his wife Ulrica Amalie Antoinette nee. von Danneskiold-Laurvig (1686–1755).

His first wife was Birthe von Holstein (1705-1735), whom he married in 1730. The later major general and chamberlain Christian von Ahlefeldt-Laurvigen (1732–1791) emerged from this marriage . After a long legal dispute, he inherited the Lehnsgrafschaft Laurvigen in Norway in 1785 and received approval to use the name "Count of Langeland and Laurvigen"; the feudal county Laurvigen was sold in 1805.

After Ulrica's death in 1760 he married Marie Elisabeth , (1719–1769) also a née von Ahlefeldt , the daughter of the Chancellery President and Chamberlain of Duke Karl Friedrich , Benedikt von Ahlefeldt .

After his father's death in 1722 he took over the county of Langeland with Tranekær Castle and other large estates in Denmark . Ahlefeldt's military career began around 1720. In 1724 he was first captain and company commander of the Crown Prince Regiment and in 1728 he was the life guard on foot. He later became Chamberlain and in 1729 Knight of the Dannebrog Order . Von Ahlefeldt gradually reached various degrees in the army, so he was lieutenant colonel of the Schubart'rian regiment in 1730 and major general of the cavalry in 1747, until he became lieutenant general in 1754 . In 1758 he retired from the army due to a dispute with the Holstein-Gottorfische Princely House.
