Count Conrad Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt (born September 21, 1707 in Copenhagen , † June 25, 1791 in Rendsburg ) was a general and chief war secretary in the Danish service.

Life

Conrad Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt was the son of the count and landlord Carl von Ahlefeldt (1670–1722) and his wife Ulrica Amalie Antoinette nee. von Danneskiold-Laurvig (1686–1755). On February 24, 1739, Ahlefeld married Wilhelmine Hedwig, b. von Gram (born November 29, 1711; † May 30, 1790), a daughter of the Danish chief hunter Friedrich von Gram (1664–1741) in Copenhagen.

Ahlefeldt was lieutenant from 1725 and captain of the Crown Prince Regiment from 1729 . In 1729 he spent a long time in Paris . He was a member of the war ministry from 1737 to 1741 , was appointed chamberlain in 1738 and in the same year initially resigned with the rank of major for health reasons.

In 1746 he served again as a colonel of the infantry and in 1750 as a colonel of the dragoons . He was promoted to major general in 1753 and moved to the military administration as minister of war in 1755 . In 1763 he resigned from this office and was appointed governor of Copenhagen and general of the cavalry . In 1766 he was deputy chairman of the council of war under Prince Karl . Ahlefeldt was a holder of the Dannebrog Order and was awarded the Order of the Elephants by King Christian VII of Denmark and Norway on January 3, 1768 . On January 25, 1771, Ahlefeld was dismissed by Cabinet Councilor Johann Friedrich Struensee , who meanwhile ran the affairs of state for the insane Danish King Christian VII. On February 11, he was appointed Oberlanddrosten of the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst . There he campaigned for the expansion of the dykes and applied for a contribution from the Danish government for the considerable construction costs. After the fall of Struensee, he was appointed governor to Fredericia in Jutland on March 13, 1772 . In 1775 he was appointed governor of Rendsburg and inspector of the Danish and Norwegian cavalry regiments and the infantry in Jutland and in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein . In 1788, at an advanced age, he received his farewell.
