Michael von Numsen

Michael von Numsen (born March 28, 1686 , † September 7, 1757 ) was a Danish field marshal .

Life

origin

Numsen came from a 1688 ennobled Danish family. His parents were the Danish major general Mathias Numsen (1646–1731) and Marie Olesdatter Worm (1588–1654). The also Danish general Christian Wilhelm von Numsen (1687–1756) was his brother.

Career

Numsen joined his father's regiment, the 2nd Seeland Reiter Regiment, at the age of 15 and immediately took part in the campaign in Holland . He was promoted to lieutenant in 1703 and in 1706 became captain of the Dragoon Regiment of Duke Württemberg-Oels . In 1712 he was promoted to Rittmeister in the Life Guard on horseback and in 1717 to Major . In the meantime, he was promoted to colonel in 1723, became chief of the 3rd Jutland cavalry regiment, advanced to major general in 1728 , became a knight of the Dannebrogden in 1731 and finally received the character of lieutenant general in 1735 . In 1740 he became General Secretary of the War, and after resigning from this position, he was promoted to General of the Cavalry in 1746 . Numsen became Knight of the Elephant Order in 1748 and Commander of Copenhagen in 1750 . Also in 1750 he was awarded the Order of the Perfect Union . In 1756 he was awarded the title of field marshal .

family

Numsen married Margrethe Marie Thomasine von Ingenhaef (1705–1776), daughter of the Danish general Johann Peter von Ingenhaeff († 1717) in 1725 . The marriage resulted in 12 children, including the two Danish privy councilors Frederik von Numsen (1737–1802) and Christian Frederik von Numsen (1741–1811).
