Johan Christoph (er) von Körbitz (also Kørbitz ; * before 1667 ; † December 24, 1726 ) was a major general in the Danish-Norwegian service.

Family and origin

Von Körbitz's father was the Saxon secret council and heir to the county of Henneberg Hans Caspar von Körbitz (1629–1691), his mother was his wife Sophie Elisabeth Thoss von Körbitz, nee. von Erlebach († 1719). His sister was Johanne Sophie von Körbitz (approx. 1666–1757). Since von Körbitz's uncle of the same name died childless, Hans Caspar von Körbitz inherited Hellerup , which is why the family moved to Denmark, where the father became a state councilor.

In 1700 von Körbitz married Charlotte Sophie von Harstall (1680–1760), daughter of the head stable master Christian Ulrich von Harstall; she married Berritsgård on Lolland , but had to sell the estate in 1728 and Hellerup in 1739. The marriage had three children:

Life

After a few years in foreign service, in 1700 he joined Rodsteen's newly recruited dragoon regiment as a major , with which he served in Italy and Saxony. Already in 1702 he took his leave, but in 1708 he was given the character of a lieutenant colonel and in 1710 returned to active service, this time with the 1st Zeeland cavalry regiment. In 1712 he was appointed colonel and in 1717 was appointed chief of the 1st Fyn cavalry regiment. In 1723 he was appointed major general . He must have enjoyed a good reputation with King Friedrich IV , because after Christian Carl Gabel fell out of favor in October 1725, von Körbitz was appointed the new Chief War Secretary for the army and navy, but died the following year.
