Christian Lerche

Count Christian Lerche (born June 15, 1692 , † December 6, 1757 in Copenhagen ) was a cavalry general in the Danish-Norwegian service.

Family and origin

Lerches father was the only child of his parents. His father was the order secretary and master of ceremonies, most recently chief master of ceremonies, Vincens Lerche (1666–1742), his mother was his wife Cathrine Hedevig, nee. Wibe (1669-1731). On December 22, 1744 married Lerche in the Copenhagen Slotskirke the Countess Amalie Magdalene Christiane Caroline to Leiningen -Westerburg (1713-1800), daughter of Count Georg II. Karl Ludwig zu Leiningen-Westerburg (1666-1726) and his third wife, Countess Margrethe Christiane Augusta Danneskiold-Laurvig (1694–1761). The marriage remained childless.

Life

In 1712 Lerche became a captain in an infantry regiment. In the battle of Gadebusch he acted as adjutant to the Obergeneral. In the next year he came to the Guard on foot and in 1716 became a lieutenant colonel in the cavalry. Because of his poor health, Lerche asked for a vacation to travel south while still at war. There he served as a volunteer in the imperial army . In 1718 he was commissioned in Vienna to procure a famous imperial general for the king and chief war secretary Christian Carl Gabel , who was to lead the campaign in Norway in 1719, as Jobst Scholten and Franz Joachim von Dewitz had refused this honor. Despite lengthy negotiations, Lerche achieved nothing on this matter. In 1720 he took his leave with the character of a colonel . Since his friend Poul Vendelbo de Løvenørn was Chief War Secretary in 1730 , Lerche received the character of a major general in 1731 , became a member of the General Commissariat and in 1739 Lieutenant General . During this time he became a member of many important commissions, including a. he should restore peace and order on Bornholm and counter the rapidly increasing desertion in the army.

After selling his estates in Jutland and Norway , in 1742 he acquired most of what was then Kalundborg with numerous manors, churches and large forests. Since he had no offspring of his own, he built a " stamhus " in 1755 . In place of the former Østrupgård , he built Lerchenborg and the Lerchesche Palais in Copenhagen's Slotsholmsgade , which is now a government building. With his accession to the throne, Friedrich V. appointed Lerche General of the Cavalry and Chief War Secretary. In 1751 Lerche was raised to the rank of count and in the next year he was given the rank of privy councilor in the Gehejmekonseil . In 1753, due to poor health, he asked to leave his position.
