Friedrich von Bretschneider

Friedrich von Bretschneider , from 1843 Freiherr von Bretschneider (* 1770 in Nassau-Usingen , † June 3, 1846 in Milan ), was an Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal and City Commander of Milan.

Life

Bretschneider was the son of the military and writer Heinrich Gottfried von Bretschneider and entered the Austrian military service. Due to his exceptional achievements in a fight against the Turks on April 19, 1789, he was promoted to lieutenant and rose to the officer class . He also regularly excelled in his further military career. He took part in the Revolutionary War in the Netherlands and was taken prisoner there. 1801 was promoted to major . He continued to serve regularly and was made a lieutenant colonel in 1807 . In 1813 he was employed as a colonel in the outpost service in Styria . From there he advanced to northern Italy and later he fought off Lyon before later returning to Italy. He was promoted to major general in 1815 and finally to field marshal lieutenant in 1830 .

Bretschneider became the fortress commander in Piacenza in 1836 and finally in 1837 city commander of Milan. He remained in this office until his death.
