Friedrich von Friedeburg (journalist)

Friedrich von Friedeburg (born February 24, 1926 in Wilhelmshaven ; † January 1, 1991 in Bad Homburg ) was a German journalist and manager at various industrial companies.

Life

Friedrich-Ferdinand von Friedeburg attended the Kiel School of Academics . His father was General Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg , from 1943 commanding admiral of the German submarines. Friedrich von Friedeburg, as he was called all his life, became a naval officer like his older brother after graduating from high school and was to be deployed as a lieutenant captain in the reserve in 1945 as a submarine commander in World War II . After the war he worked as a journalist and became a UN correspondent for the North West German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR). He studied at the universities in Seattle and Washington. As the state chairman of the Federation of European Youth , he led the occupation of Heligoland on December 20, 1950 by the two Heidelberg students René Leudesdorff and Georg von Hatzfeld together with the publicist Hubertus zu Löwenstein to protest against British bombings. Later he was press officer for the main community of German retailers . As head of the press office of the mechanical engineering group Demag (Deutsche Maschinenbau-Aktiengesellschaft) in Duisburg , he was awarded the “Silver Anvil” in 1962 by the Public Relations Society of America for the best public relations work in the field of international relations. As responsible for public relations for various industrial companies, he was director at Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz and most recently at Braun AG from 1968 .

His father Hans-Georg von Friedeburg was Admiral General , from 1943 commanding admiral of the German submarines. He died by suicide in 1945 . His mother was Ursula von Friedeburg, b. from Harlem. His brother was the education politician Ludwig von Friedeburg . He married Ingrid Freiin Bedeus von Scharberg in 1957.

Honors

On January 31, 1990, Friedrich von Friedeburg received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
