Friedrich Christian Wilhelm von Sydow (born May 23, 1780 in Langensalza , † December 10, 1845 in Sondershausen ) was a Prussian officer and writer .

Life

The son of a colonel from Electoral Saxony who was active as a writer in addition to his military career in the Prussian service , came from the German aristocratic family Sydow .

As a major , he said goodbye to the 31st Infantry Regiment in Erfurt . In the 1820s he moved from Erfurt to Sondershausen in Schwarzburg and in 1832 took over the editing of the entertainment journal for the daily newspaper " Der Deutsche ". He was also very active as a writer and, together with other well-known Thuringian authors, published the eight-volume work “ Thuringia and the Harz ”.

Friedrich was also a member of the Masonic LodgeTo the Three Mountains ” in Freiberg and founder of the Masonic paperback “ Asträa ”.

His wife Wilhelmine (1789–1867), born von Criegern , was also active as a writer under the pseudonym Isidore Grönau in the fictional and practical field. Among his sons were the famous lieutenant colonel Emil von Sydow and Oskar von Sydow (1811–1886), who was pastor in Altenkirchen (Rügen) .
