Hereditary Count Friedrich was the son of Prince Joseph Anton von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee (* 1766–1833) and Princess Maria Josepha (* 1770–1848), née Countess von Fugger-Babenhausen . In 1833, after the death of his father, he became the second prince of Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee to join the Württemberg Chamber of Notaries . In contrast to Constantin von Waldburg-Zeil , however, Prince Friedrich was not very interested in actively shaping politics at the state level. In contrast, he was very popular with the country and its people in the closer home. He was involved in shooting and was one of the founding members of the Oberschwäbischer Schützenverein in Ravensburg in 1855 .

The liberation of the peasants in 1847 led him to believe that the nobility could in future maintain their power solely with property and capital. His passion belonged to the hunt, so that he felt the loss of the hunting privilege associated with the March Revolution as a particular threat to his self-image as a professional. From 1848 to 1849 and from 1852 to 1870 he was Vice President of the First Chamber of the State Parliament in Stuttgart . More representative functions were associated with this.

Friedrich von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in 1843 .
