Family Secrets is a German television film directed by Dominic Müller in 2015. It is the second episode of the Friesland television series .

action

The two East Frisian patrolmen Jens Jensen and Süher Özlügül are vying for the vacated position of head of the Leer department . So a murder case comes in handy for them. Felix Bilstedt, son of the local organic farmer, is found murdered by the self-proclaimed forensic doctor Insa Scherzinger. Commissioner Jan Brockhorst arrives and sends Jensen and Özlügül back to their posts as patrol officers. But that doesn't prevent the two of them from investigating the case anyway. In doing so, they quickly discover that Felix was involved in drug deals, from which there is definitely a motive for the crime. Leer may even have become a hub for international drug trafficking. When looking for Felix's supplier, they inquire at the local disco. On the tapes of the surveillance cameras they can see the men who are not from Leer. Süher Özlügül noticed two strangers at the port that day who, with Brockhorst's help, can now be identified as Stefan Voss and Günther Bloom. Both are on record as dangerous offenders and known to be drug dealers. Both the commissioner and Jensen and Özlügül consider the men to be urgently suspect, so that an arrest warrant is applied for against both.

Meanwhile, Voss and Bloom are looking for Kemal, a former drug courier who cheated on them many years ago about a drug delivery. When they purposefully address Süher's father about it, Günesh Özlügül acts as if they were mistaking him for him. He denies that he is Kemal and his life is in danger. At the last moment Günesh was rescued from a burning shed, but the perpetrators flee. Jensen wants to prove with exaggerated ambition that he is a better cop than his colleague. That tempts him to go hunting for criminals alone. He falls into the power of Voss and Bloom, who explain to him on the occasion that they did not murder Felix Bilstedt. They would have come to Leer solely because of Kemal. They don't want to mess with a police officer either and drop Jensen, almost unmoved, on a lonely stretch of coast.

Günesh Özlügül reveals himself to his daughter after the attack on him. He admits to smuggling drugs in the 1980s. But he would not have embezzled a delivery, but would have been in distress and the drug had gone overboard. Süher is disappointed in her father and just as unhappy about Jens going it alone. Nevertheless, his reference to the possible innocence of Voss and Bloom in the death of Felix Süher leads to rethinking. Meanwhile, Commissioner Brockhorst is still convinced that Voss and Bloom are the murderers of Felix Bilstedt. He also tracks down Günesh Özlügül's past, who then goes into hiding and has to worry about her police career.

During her investigations, pharmacist Insa Scherzinger accidentally finds out that Felix Bilstedt cannot be the son of Rune Bilstedt under any circumstances, because this is not possible due to the blood group. Süher and Jens are investigating the matter and are sure that Rune Bilstedt has also found out and killed his son in the affect. They come just in time before Rune can hang himself.

Voss and Bloom can also be incapacitated and arrested. Süher and Jens propose to Commissioner Brockhorst that he should leave the success of the investigation to him alone if, in return, he would keep quiet about the inglorious past of Süher's father.

Reviews

Thomas Gehringer from tittelbach.tv said about this episode: “Jens Jensen and Süher Özlügül are engaging in a humorous, sparkling competition for the vacancy of the police department management. [...] Only subtle tension, but a good cast in a humorous underdog thriller that works like a joke with the opposite sign: blondes and East Frisians always win in the end. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm only gave a medium rating (thumbs straight) and judged: “Record story with nice guys and a lot of speed.” Conclusion: “Roughly overdone. But not boring! "

In zauberspiegel-online.de you can read: “It's nice to see that 'Friesland', in contrast to the also new ZDF crime series such as 'München Mord' or 'Helen Dorn', will be back from the second episode were catapulted back into crime mediocrity, 'Friesland' with the second episode 'Familiengeheimnis' actually manages to clearly improve on the pilot episode 'Murderous Tides'.
