Krabbenkrieg is a German television film directed by Markus Sehr from 2017. It is the fifth episode of the Friesland television series .

action

Arne Terjehusen, a violent ex-classmate of Jens Jensen, returns to Leer after several years in prison and breaks into Insa Scherzinger's pharmacy. Jensen surprises him and a fight ensues in which Terjehusen, about to stab Jensen, is shot by Süher Özlügül in emergency aid who followed her colleague.

The search for Terjehusen's burglary motif leads to the Heulinger Meeresfrucht haulage company , which regularly drives crabs to North Africa to pound. Özlügül and Jensen find the corpse of owner Klaus Heulinger in one of the crab tubs. Since he had a violent argument with his unfaithful wife Jessica, Brockhorst suspects that she killed her husband because he did not fulfill her promised dream of having her own restaurant. But Heulinger had a number of enemies besides her, as he had a monopoly on buying shrimp in the region and pushed the fishermen to the brink of ruin. Oliver Gerdes, a driver employed by Heulinger, wanted to set up his own business with his cousin, pharmaceutical representative Thomas Däger, and had made the fishermen an alternative offer. Maybe the two wanted to get their competitors out of the way. When Süher Özlügül tries to establish a connection with the pharmacy break-in, she finds out that Terjehusen worked for Heulinger before his stay in prison.

Before his death, Heulinger had withdrawn 250,000 euros in cash from his account. One of the notes is issued by Luke, a friend of Terjehusen's, at a gas station. Luke explains to the police that he received the money from shrimp fisherman Ludwig Ortgiesen for a small service. For his part, Ortgiesen declares that he has accepted bribes from Heulinger to vote for the contract extension with Heulinger. However, the sum seems to be too high for Jensen and Özlügül. They search a Heulinger truck returning home and find a load of anti-cancer drugs that Scherzinger finds out are fake and ineffective.

At the same time, Commissioner Brockhorst comes across Däger's illegal drug trade in his investigation. When Jensen and Özlügül want to arrest him, they find him dead in the trunk of his car. This makes Krabbenfischer Harke Mensen the main suspect, whose son Dirk recently died of cancer and tried to find out during his lifetime why the drugs weren't working for him. But Harke is not the unknown avenger, but Dirk's best friend Jonas Ricklefs punishes everyone who, in his opinion, is guilty of Dirk's death. Jensen and Özlügül are barely able to prevent him from killing Insa Scherzinger, who sold the drugs to Dirk, but without knowing that they were ineffective.

Terjehusen's break-in was due to the search for evidence of Heulinger's illegal trade in fake drugs. He had found out about these deals while working in the shipping company.

Reviews

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv draws the following verdict on this episode: “About stoners and crabs: The mix between fun and excitement is right in the ZDF Saturday crime thriller“ Friesland - Krabbenkrieg ”, the fifth episode of the series that is extremely popular with viewers. The investigators have a joke, the story is appealingly confusing and surprisingly resolved. The dialogues are mostly crisp & dry and director Sehr succeeds in integrating the landscape harmoniously into the staging. "

The verdict at nwzonline.de was: “The crime thriller, which often comes across as bizarre and funny, impresses above all with its camera work. The film also uses the East Frisian landscape to create a mood. "

The Frankfurter Neue Presse assessed: “The predecessor 'Irrfeuer' [...] was a direct hit. Unfortunately, the new episode can't quite keep up. "

Sidney Schering atquotemeter.de remarked: “While Andreas Köhler's camerawork maintains the above-average mature style of the series, the central criminal case is very clumsily dismantled." The script is less convincing, because the crime case "corresponding explanations are mostly repeated Very brittle written and often presented without motivation - and the search for the perpetrator and motive also takes place in a comparatively listless, unattractive style. "
