Frits Hammer Kjølsen (born September 29, 1893 in Copenhagen , † April 9, 1985 ) was a Danish naval officer and military attaché .

Origin and family

Kjølsen's father was the naval officer and office manager Rørdam Hans Kjølsens (1858–1931), his mother was his wife Frederikke, nee. Hammer (1860-1927). On January 20, 1925, he married Eline Wilhjelm (born January 6, 1902; † July 24, 1988) in Copenhagen, daughter of the painter Johannes Martin Fasting Wilhjelm (1868–1938) and his wife Johanne Marie Munk, b. von Kløcker (1870–1951).

Life

After he graduated from high school in 1909 on the Østersøgades school had taken, Kjølsen began his military training and was 1910 Kadett , 1914 second lieutenant , 1915 First Lieutenant . From 1914 to 1915 he served on survey ships. 1915 Kjølsen was first officer of the submarine dolphins , 1917-1918 First Officer of the ironclads Herluf Trolle and Skjold . From 1918 to 1919 he returned to service on submarines. In 1919 he worked in the Foreign Ministry in connection with the repatriation of German prisoners of war. After a short time as head of the submarine Nymfen , he was made available to the Foreign Ministry to work with the Legation in Berlin and the Consulate General in Hamburg . He was then a student at Søværnets Officersskole from 1920 to 1921 and was in charge of the Triton submarine from 1921 to 1922 . With the artillery ship Niels Juel , Kjølsen was in South America in 1923, the year he was appointed lieutenant captain, until 1924. From 1925 to 1927 he was the last secretary of the naval map, archive and library society. From 1926 to 1929 Kjølsen was adjutant to Crown Prince Frederik . From 1929 to 1930 he was first officer of the inspection vessel Hvidbjørnen in Greenland waters. In 1930 he was appointed captain and attended the École de Guerre Navale in Paris from 1930 to 1931 , where he received the French officer's license. In 1932 he became " orlogskaptajn " (about corvette captain ) and was chief of the workshop ship Henrik Gerner and the submarine flotilla in the training squadron. In 1934 Kjølsen was first officer of the artillery ship Peder Skram and from 1934 to 1938 first officer of the Naval Officer School . In 1937 he was appointed to 1937 " kommandørkaptajn " (about frigate captain ). In 1939 Kjølsen was the head of the fishing inspection vessel Islands Falk . From 1939 to 1941 he was a naval and air force attaché in Berlin until his expulsion. In 1943 he went to Sweden and became chief of the naval division of the Danske Brigade . In 1945 Kjølsen was appointed " Kommandør " (about a frigate captain). From 1946 to 1949 he was a military attaché in the United States and Canada and briefly rear admiral in 1949 . In 1950 he was appointed rear admiral. On April 27, 1951, he was a member of the delegation to negotiate the Danish-US agreement for the defense of Greenland . 1951 to 1955 was head of the Grønlands Command and the associated naval district and in 1952 in the meantime again Rear Admiral. In 1955 he said goodbye to the Navy and served as a reservist until 1958.
