Fritz Bechtold

Fritz Bechtold (born January 15, 1901 in Trostberg , † February 26, 1961 in Roth ) was a German mountaineer .

Life

As a student, Bechtold joined the Bayerland Alpine Club section in Munich in 1921 . Later he worked as an engineer in Trostberg, after his marriage he lived in Roth.

During the Second World War he fought in the high mountain rifle battalion under Paul Bauer in the Caucasus , including on the Elbrus .

Bechtold is one of the founders of the German Himalaya Foundation , which he also chaired.

Services

From 1920 Berchtold carried out first ascents together with Willy Merkl , especially in the Chiemgau Alps , Berchtesgaden Alps , Loferer Steinberge and Dolomites .

Also with Merkl, he achieved eight first ascents on the 1929 German Caucasus Tour , including two five-thousanders.

Bechtold was a participant in the German-American Himalaya Expedition in 1932 , the German Nanga Parbat Expedition in 1934 , the salvage expedition to the German Nanga Parbat Expedition in 1937 and the German Nanga Parbat Expedition in 1938 .
