Fritz Burmann (born August 11, 1892 in Wiedenbrück , † September 20, 1945 in Ingolstadt ) was a German painter.

Life

Fritz-Burmann-Strasse in Rheda-Wiedenbrück

From 1906 to 1910 he did an apprenticeship as a painter in the studio of the Wiedenbrück painter Heinrich Repke . This was followed by years of study at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1909 to 1912 and with the history and church painter Heinrich Nüttgens (1866–1951) in Angermund near Düsseldorf from 1910 to 1914 . Here Burmann learned the techniques of glass and wall painting . After attending the academy in Düsseldorf and Munich, where he studied with Heinrich Knirr , study trips took him to Italy , France , Belgium and Lithuania . After his return, Burmann became a master student with August Deusser . Around 1920 he joined forces with Werner Peiner and Richard Gessner to form the "Dreimann-Bund". Residing in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring until 1926 , Burmann produced the gusset “Architect and Builder” for the GeSoLeiPlanetarium ” , built by the architect Wilhelm Kreis , which is no longer available in today's Tonhalle .

In 1926 he became a professor at the Königsberg Art Academy and led a master class for ten years . One of his students in 1931/1932 was Hubert Berke , who became one of the most important painters of German Informel in post-war Germany.

Fritz Burmann was a member of the German Association of Artists . In 1933 he was made a full member of the Prussian Academy of the Arts . From 1936 until his death Burmann was a professor at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin . In his own work (paintings, church windows) Burmann never abandoned representationalism.

During the time of National Socialism, Fritz Burmann's painting “View of the Sea” was exhibited at the Great German Art Exhibition in 1939 and acquired by Adolf Hitler for 1,800 RM . In contrast, his paintings “Still life with cacti” and “Family” and the drawing “Old Woman” were confiscated as so-called degenerate art .

In his honor , a street in his hometown, today's Rheda-Wiedenbrück , was named after Fritz Burmann.
