Fritz Menne

Fritz Carl Menne (born June 14, 1919 in Berlin ) is a former German diplomat who was ambassador to Bulgaria , Iraq and Finland .

Life

Menne, son of whose father Karl Menne also worked as a consul in the foreign service, spent his youth in Budapest until 1934 . During the Second World War he did his military service and in 1947 began studying law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University , which he completed in 1950 with the first state examination in law.

Shortly afterwards, in 1950, Menne joined the newly established foreign service as an attaché and was initially employed at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn between 1951 and 1953 , before he was then vice-consul at the consulate general in Amsterdam for a short time . After he returned to the Foreign Office between 1953 and 1956, he became First Class Counselor at the Embassy in the USA in 1956 , before becoming Personnel Officer for the higher service in the Foreign Office in 1959.

After his promotion to lecturing councilor, first class, in 1962, Menne was given leave of absence to the NATO general secretariat , where he was deputy executive secretary until 1968. In this role, he was also responsible for decisions and appointments relating to personnel law. After his return, he served as head of division in the Political Department of the Foreign Office between 1968 and 1973 .

In August 1973 Menne succeeded Rolf von Keizer as head of the commercial agency in Bulgaria and then on December 21, 1974, the first ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bulgaria . He held this position until he was replaced by Heinz Dietrich Stoecker in 1976. On May 14, 1975 he signed the agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the People's Republic of Bulgaria on the development of economic, technical and industrial cooperation ( Federal Law Gazette II p. 1153 ).

Thereupon Menne became ambassador to Iraq in September 1976 and there successor to Heinz Voigt , who in turn became ambassador to Sweden . During this time, on May 10, 1977, he signed an agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Iraq on air transport.

Menne was most recently accredited as ambassador to Finland in 1979 after his work in Iraq ended , where he succeeded Klaus Simon . After five years at this ambassadorial post, he retired in 1984 and was replaced as ambassador in Finland by Klaus Terfloth .
