Fritz Führ (agronomist)
Fritz Führ (born July 23, 1934 in Berga ) is a German agronomist .
Scientific career
Führ studied agriculture at the TU Berlin and the University of Bonn . In 1962 he received his doctorate in Bonn, and in 1975 he completed his habilitation there in the field of agricultural chemistry. From 1980 until his retirement in 1999 he was director of the Institute for Radio Agronomy at the Jülich nuclear research facility (today: Forschungszentrum Jülich ) and professor at the agricultural faculty at the University of Bonn.
In 1984 Führ was elected to the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts , and in 2006/07 he was secretary of the Natural Sciences and Medicine class there.
In 1990 he received the Award for Pesticide Research from the Swiss Society for Chemical Industry (SGCI) . In 1997 he received the ACS International Award for Research in Agrochemicals from the American Chemical Society , in 1998 the Hertha Firnberg Fellowship from the Research Center Seibersdorf , Austria, and in 2002 the Otto Appel Medal from the German Phytomedical Society .
From 1975 to 1986, Führ was the head of the environmental chemicals project on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (today: Federal Ministry for Education and Research ). From 1987 to 2002 he was on the advisory board of the Federal Biological Institute , the last five years of which as chairman. From 1991 to 1997 he was a member of the Senate and Main Committee of the German Research Foundation , from 1989 to 2003 of the Senate Commission for the Assessment of Substances in Agriculture, of which 1995–2000 as Chairman. In 2001, at the request of the Minister-President of Lower Saxony, Sigmar Gabriel, he took over the chairmanship of the government commission there, Future of Agriculture - Consumer Orientation .
Führ's main area of work is the use of tracer technology in agricultural chemistry , especially plant nutrition . One focus of the research was on lysimeter technology and its use in the experimental determination of the environmental behavior of agrochemical substances and nuclear fallout products. He published over 160 papers in refereed journals.
