Fritz Möller (meteorologist)
Fritz Möller (born May 16, 1906 in Rudolstadt ; † March 21, 1983 in Munich ) was a German meteorologist and geophysicist. He is considered a pioneer in satellite meteorology.
Life
Möller's father of the same name was director of the Rudolstadt hospital. Möller studied geophysics and meteorology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1924 . In 1925 he went to the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which it with a 1928 doctoral dissertation at Franz left for Dr. phil. nat. PhD . In 1935 he completed his habilitation on the dynamics of the atmosphere. From 1934 he worked as a meteorologist at Frankfurt Airport . In the meantime he worked in the new Reich Weather Service from 1935 to 1938 . From 1938 he taught at the University of Frankfurt and the University of Leipzig .
The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz appointed him in 1948 as a professor . His institute became internationally significant in radiation research. In 1960 Möller followed the call of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Until his retirement in 1972 he headed the Meteorological Institute and the Institute for Meteorology and Climatology. Contrary to Möler's wishes, the order for Meteosat went to France as part of the European cooperation . Möller died at the age of 76. Since 1924 he was a member of the Corps Thuringia Jena .
Möller, who worked with Syukuro Manabe on the numerical determination of radiation fluxes in 1959/60 , stayed twice for research stays in the USA, the second time to evaluate measurement data from meteorological satellites . In the Global Atmospheric Research Program , he was the only German on the executive committee.
