Fritz Poleck

Fritz Peter Theodor Wilhelm Hans Poleck (born November 8, 1905 in Lissa ; † November 27, 1989 in Munich ) was a German army officer ( Colonel i. G. ) and during the Second World War he was last chief of the OKW ( High Command of the Wehrmacht ) chief group.

Life

He was Protestant and was married to Ilse Poleck, nee Roeder, until his death in 1989. You have three sons.

Wehrmacht

Fritz Poleck belonged to the OKW (L, WFA and WFSt) from November 10, 1938 to March 31, 1941. On April 1, 1941, he was assigned to the 170th Infantry Division as First General Staff Officer (Ia) . In this position he received the German Cross in Gold as a major on March 12, 1942 . With effect from April 15, 1943, he was transferred to the Reserve Command of the Army High Command. On May 21, 1943 he returned to the Wehrmacht command staff as quartermaster . Most recently he was head of the OKW executive group.

Promotion to major general

In this position he was promoted to major general in accordance with an order of May 9, 1945 with effect and seniority from April 20, 1945 . However, the Federal Ministry of Defense decided in 1968 that this rank could not be awarded because it could not be clearly established whether the promotion would become legally binding before the end of the war.

Signing of the partial surrender

On May 4, 1945 he signed on the Timeloberg on the outskirts of Wendisch Evern together with General Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg , General Eberhard Kinzel , Rear Admiral Gerhard Wagner and Major i. G. Jochen Friedel the partial surrender of the Wehrmacht for Northwest Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands before the British.

post war period

After his release from captivity in 1947, Poleck completed a commercial training course, which he completed on September 30, 1949. In October 1950 he joined the Gehlen organization , the forerunner of the Federal Intelligence Service . In 1957 he joined the Bundeswehr . On November 7, 1957, Federal President Theodor Heuss appointed Colonel a. D. Fritz Poleck, citing the employment relationship of a professional soldier, back to the colonel. Poleck officially performed his service in the Office for Military Studies , which is the personnel management agency for members of the armed forces who are deployed in the Federal Intelligence Service (BND). On March 31, 1964, Poleck was retired and thus retired as Colonel a. D. from active duty. Poleck died on November 27, 1989. In his obituary published by the BND, Poleck is given the code name "Fritz Posser".
