Fritz Weege, son of an elementary school teacher, passed his Abitur in 1898 at Lessing-Gymnasium in his hometown Frankfurt and studied from 1899 classical archeology, classical philology and ancient history at the University of Bonn , where Georg Loeschcke was his teacher, and the Berlin University . The dissertation in Bonn in 1905 was on the subject of Vasculorum campanorum inscriptiones Italicae . This was followed by the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute from 1906 to 1908 , with the help of which he traveled through southern Italy, Greece and Asia Minor. In 1908, Weege became an assistant at the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute . As an employee of Wilhelm Dörpfeld , he took part in the excavations of the German Archaeological Institute in Olympia , Pylos and Leukas . The habilitation took place in 1912 at the University of Halle on a building history topic: A hall in Nero's golden house . In 1913/14 Weege took part in excavations at this palace in Rome, where he stayed until 1915. From 1916 to 1918 he was a lecturer at the University of Tübingen . From 1920 to 1945 Weege taught as the first exclusive professor of classical archeology at the University of Wroclaw , whose archaeological museum he also directed. His predecessors were all professors of philology and archeology.

Weege's scientific work focused on ancient painting, Etruscan and ancient Italian art, and ancient dance.

Weege was a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and the Istituto di Studi Etruschi in Florence.

At the end of the Second World War , Weege fled from Breslau to Pirna . He died there on August 17, 1945 at the age of 64 as a result of an operation.

He was married to Ilse Römer (1887–1954), a descendant of the painter Wilhelm Hensel , about whom Weege also published.
