ζ Cassiopeiae ( Zeta Cassiopeiae , short ζ Cas ; IAU - name Fulu ) is a star in the constellation Kassiopeia . The star has an apparent magnitude of 3.66 mag and is about 600 light years away from us.

ζ Cas is a star of the spectral class B2 IV (or IV – V) and has a mass of 8 - 9 M . The rotation period could be measured very precisely with the help of the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) to 5.370 447 ± 0.000 078 days. The inclination of the axis of rotation in relation to our line of sight i , the projected rotation speed v sin i and the true rotation speed at the equator v are, according to Coralie Neiner et al. (2003) i = 18 ± 4 °, v sin i = 17 ± 3 km / s and v = 55 ± 28 km / s or according to Maryline Briquet et al. (2016) i = 30 ± 1 °, v sin i = 20 ± 3 km / s and v = 40 ± 7.5 km / s. With the above rotation period, the star radius is ≈ 6 R in the first case or ≈ 4 R in the second case . Apart from that, the radius of 5.4 R ⊙ was calculated using theoretical models (based on IUE observation data).

In 2003 the presence of a weak dipolar magnetic field of B pol = 335  +120−65 G (in a later study B pol ≈ 100 - 150 G) detected. The magnetic field has a strong inclination towards the axis of rotation of almost 80 ° and influences the discharge of the stellar wind . The wind particles escape at the magnetic poles and settle in a disk at the magnetic equator. Shock fronts are presumably formed over the magnetic poles by winds flowing out and falling back again. The annual mass loss due to the stellar wind is (depending on the determination method ) 10 −9.7 or 10 −11 M . Observations with the NARVAL spectropolarimeter have shown that ζ Cas does not rotate differentially , but that a “rigid” rotation is forced by the magnetic field.

ζ Cas is weakly changeable and belongs to the slowly pulsating B-stars (outdated 53-Persei-stars ). Here, ζ Cas in the instability strip in the HR diagram is on the border with the β-Cephei stars . The brightness fluctuates by less than 0.004 mag (in the ubvyβ system). The star pulsates nonradially with a period of 1.56 days.

On June 30, 2017, the name Fulu was added to the IAU's official list of star names.
