The Fuorcla Prünella is an alpine pass in the canton of Graubünden in the Swiss Alps . With a peak height of 2825 m above sea level. M. it connects the Val Prünella in the north with the Val Tschüffer in the south. The pass is located between Piz Pischa in the west and Piz Sagliaint in the east.
Location and surroundings
The Fuorcla Prünella belongs to the Piz Languard group, a subgroup of the Livigno Alps . The municipal boundary between Pontresina and Madulain runs over the pass . The Fuorcla Prünella is bordered in the north by the Val Prünella, a side valley of the Val Chamuera that ends in La Punt-Chamues-ch, and in the south by the Val Tschüffer, a side valley of the Val da Fain . It connects the Piz Pischa ( 3136 m ) in the west with the Piz Sagliaint ( 2944 m ) in the east.
South of Fuorcla Prünella is Lej Tschüffer ( 2751 m ), immediately to the west of it is Fuorcla Tschüffer ( 2832 m ), the transition to the S-chüdella plateau, where Lej da Pischa ( 2770 m ) is located. East of the Fuorcla Prünella is the Fuorcla Sagliaint ( 2866 m ), the transition into the Val Platta, from where the Forcola di Livigno ( 2314 m ) can be reached either via Alp la Stretta ( 2426 m ) and La Stretta ( 2465 m ) or via the Fuorcla Chamuera ( 2790 m ) back to Alp Prünella ( 2211 m ) in the Val Chamuera.
Valley locations are Bernina Suot and La Punt-Chamues-ch .
Origin of name
Prünella matches the Latin pruna 'plum' , but it is difficult to justify the matter. A reference to the Engadine brün , German 'brown', is loudly questionable.
