occupation

Life Afterwards is a German television film from 2017. It deals with traumatized victims of the accident at the 2010 Love Parade .

action

The focus is on 24-year-old Antonia Schneider. She was at the 2010 Love Parade accident and has suffered from panic attacks ever since. After she devastated the memorial at the tunnel, she had to flee from two police officers and was taken away by the taxi driver Sascha, who happened to be passing by. This does not show them, although a person wanted is called. Antonia learns from Paul, the leader of the self-help group “Rampe”, that Sascha, as an expert, was jointly responsible for the disaster at the time. Antonia now wants to punish him for it. She informs his 14-year-old son Jasper about his father's misconduct and seduces him. Antonia's father Thomas is also violent against Sascha and insults him as a "murderer". Antonia is kicked out of the house for her misconduct.

In the self-help group, Antonia confesses her love for Sascha. A member expels her from the group. Antonia appears at the concert of her father's band. There is another panic attack and the concert has to be interrupted, but her father is proud of her. Antonia gets into Sascha's taxi and they both drive away.

criticism

“It feels oppressive and almost uncomfortable when the traumatized young woman gets stuck in her anger and helplessness. Jella Haase convinces in the violent role of the fundamentally disturbed personality who cannot find any perspective in her life. "

- Johannes Giewald : Osnabrück newspaper

“With all the terrible things that Sascha and Toni have in them, that protrudes into them, that in flashbacks and a few documentary film scenes are faded in as nightmares without any greed for sensation, with all of this, 'The Afterwards' remains a deeply human film. One who is obviously close to everyday life. Lively. And sad. And won't let you go. "

- Elmar Krakeler : The world

"'The Afterlife' is big television."

- Heike Hupertz : Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

"The result is not a clever court drama, no ticking catastrophe film, no swan song for the Rave generation, not the obvious, but a very special love story, in which love has a very difficult time."

- Thomas Bärnthaler : Süddeutsche Zeitung

“A classic TV piece for Wednesdays: high social relevance, educational claim! In these productions, the big themes often overwhelm the small characters. That this is not the case here is also thanks to director Nicole Weegmann (Grimme Prize for 'Part of Us') and the scriptwriters Eva and Volker A. Zahn. The three of them were jointly responsible for the self-tearing-up trip of small and medium-sized businesses called 'Mobbing'. The socio-political subject may be at the beginning of her work, but this subject is always embedded in a social cosmos whose characters breathe life. Nice, hideous life. "

- Christian Buß : Spiegel Online

“The way in which this film combines these emotional punches with finely graduated and grandiose character portraits makes it an outstanding drama. Everything is actually right there, and even the hint of hope and forgiveness doesn't seem artificial in the end. "

- Ulrich Feld : Frankfurter Neue Presse
