Furcraea occidentalis is a species of the genus Furcraea in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet occidentalis means 'western' and refers to the occurrence of the species in western Peru.

description

Furcraea occidentalis grows without a trunk or presumably forms a short trunk. The narrow, elongated leaves are about 60 to 145 centimeters long and 10 centimeters wide. The leaf margins have tiny thorns . The tiny, somewhat triangular marginal teeth are straight or slightly curved backwards. They are yellow-brown or blackish and 1 millimeter long. The tiny, blunt and hemispherical end mandrel is 0.5 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide.

The glabrous inflorescence , bearing plenty of bulbils , reaches a height of 6 meters. The flowers are about 50 millimeters long. Their greenish white tepals are about 30 millimeters long. The ovary has a length of about 20 millimeters.

Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .

Systematics and distribution

Furcraea occidentalis is common in the Peruvian regions of Ancash , Huánuco , Loreto and Lima on rocky slopes at altitudes of 500 to 2500 meters. According to R. Govaerts, it also occurs in western Bolivia.

The first description by William Trelease was published in 1913. Furcraea occidentalis is classified in the genus in the section Furcraea . The species is not well known.
