Gérard Mulumba Kalemba

Gérard Mulumba Kalemba (born July 8, 1937 in Kananga , † April 15, 2020 in Kinshasa ) was a Congolese clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Mweka . Since 2019 he has been head of the Maison civile du chef de l'État of the Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi .

Life

Gerard Mulumba Kalemba received on 20 August 1967, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He studied in particular theology in Leuven and Kinshasa as well as development sociology in Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mweka on January 19, 1989. The bishop of Mbujimayi , Joseph Ngogi Nkongolo , donated him episcopal ordination on July 9 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Emery Kabongo Kanundowi , Archbishop ad personam and Bishop of Luebo , and Martin-Léonard Bakole wa Ilunga , Archbishop of Kananga .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 18, 2017.

His great-nephew Félix Tshisekedi , President of the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2019 , appointed him head of the Head of State's Maison civile du chef de l'État on May 21, 2019 . This body is under the direct authority of the President of the Republic. It is responsible for managing the care and logistics of private homes and presidential sites, the private secretariat of the head of state and the medical service of the president. Étienne Tshisekedi , former Prime Minister, was the brother of Félix Tshisekedi.

Gérard Mulumba Kalemba died in April 2020 as a result of COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic .
