Gölbaşı (Kurdish Serê Golan ) is the capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Adıyaman . At the beginning of the newly founded Turkish Republic, Gölbaşı and the Besni district belonged to Gaziantep until 1933 , then to Malatya and finally in 1954 to the newly founded Adiyaman Province. The city itself is divided into nine mahalle (districts).
The district borders on Lake Gölbaşı Gölü and is about 55 km west of the provincial capital Adıyaman . Two other lakes are Azaplı Gölü and İnekli Gölü. The highest mountain is the Boruk with 2320 m . The district is home to around eight percent of the provincial population and consists of the district town (with 64 percent of the district population) and three other small towns / communities ( Belediye ): Belören (2,130), Balkar (2,039) and Harmanlı (1,840 inh .).
