Göritz is a district of the city of Hirschberg in Thuringia . The district of Lehesten , which is located to the south, also belongs to the formerly independent village . Göritz was incorporated into the city of Hirschberg in 1994.

Geography and geology

Göritz is located northwest of the city of Hirschberg on the left of the federal highway 9 from Munich to Berlin . The corridors of Göritz and the hamlet of Lehesten can be geologically assigned to the south-east Thuringian slate mountains.

Neighboring towns are Frössen in the northwest , Blintendorf in the north, Ullersreuth in the east and Lehesten in the south. The village lies in the valley of the Lehestenbach.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1355. In further research, Kahl found the documented first mention on September 24, 1282. The settlement is of Sorbian origin and therefore a few years older. With the beginning of the German settlement, a manor was also created, which held the jurisdiction until 1853.

religion

Göritz has no church and initially belonged to the Gefell parish and since 1869 to the Frössen parish. Since 1998 it belongs together with Ullersreuth to the parish of Blankenberg .

Infrastructure

education

From 1833 on, Göritz had its own school with a permanent teacher. In 1964 the village received a ten-class polytechnic high school as the central school location , which was maintained until 1991. After moving to the former border barracks in Göritz, only the primary school remained in the village until 1998.

traffic

The highway bridge over the Saale, which was blown up by the Wehrmacht in 1945 , was repaired so that on December 16, 1966 a new border crossing could be opened near Göritz for transit traffic and domestic German travel. Since 1938 the Munich - Berlin motorway, today the A 9 federal motorway , has passed the village directly.

With the lines 720 and 721 of the KomBus transport company , Göritz has connections to the core city of Hirschberg (Saale) as well as to the cities of Schleiz and Bad Lobenstein .
