As a photographer he has worked for the Arbeiter-Zeitung , the magazine Wiener as well as clients such as Visa , Generali , Kodak , Bauwelt and as a portrait photographer .

As an employee at Volkshilfe Österreich , he founded a learning club for children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. During the refugee crisis in Europe from 2015 onwards , he campaigned for refugees housed in the former building of the daily newspaper Kurier , found families in private quarters and took one in himself.

After the state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 2015 , he became a district councilor in the district council of Vienna's 7th  district of Neubau after running for a candidate on the SPÖ list .

At the end of May 2017, during the restructuring of the management level of the ÖVP in the run-up to the National Council election in Austria 2017 , a Facebook posting by Schrages caused a stir for a few days. Referring to the new general secretary of the ÖVP, Elisabeth Köstinger , he said, "[...] that the young women of the ÖVP Innere Stadt from the early 80s who slept with me because they probably thought I was a talented revolutionary, looked exactly the same, dressed the same way, and spoke the same way. There's sure to be a Burberry scarf hanging in Elisabeth Köstinger's anteroom. I have to know that as an expert. ”This was rated as sexist by various quarters, in the media, by representatives of other parties and also within the party, and he also heard expressions of solidarity from others. He then deleted the post. The calls for resignation from the SPÖ itself ended after he had apologized and after a discussion with the Neubauer district party.
