Göynücek is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Amasya . The place is about 40 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Amasya . The county town is connected by a country road with Amasya in the northeast and with Ortaköy in the southwest. The district town houses around 27 percent of the district's population.

The district is located in the south of the province. It borders in the north on the central district, in the southeast on the province of Tokat , in the south on the province of Yozgat and in the west on the province of Çorum . About parallel to it flows the Çekerek Çayı , which flows further north, shortly before Amasya, into the Yeşilırmak . Lake Gediksaray Göleti is about twelve kilometers east of the district town . The mountain range Kırlar Dağı runs through the north-west of the district , through the south-east the Karadağ .
In addition to the county seat, the district also consists of 38 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 205 inhabitants, the largest of which is Damlaçimen (910 inhabitants).
